BUDDIES BLOGS - RUDY THOMPSON
Well going into Wednesday night there were more question then ever that needed to be asked, and the staff at Capital City answered all of them! The track was looking like it was ready to go, after a few problems on Monday many were wondering if it could handle being raced on. The night didn’t look like it would be a go with big storm cells all around Ottawa, But the night started off as scheduled. The highly anticipated mini stock were out first and they did not let down. Doug Mould started his 2010 season the same way as he end 09 by winning a heat. The other heat went to a quick Mike Oakley. Next up the 53 Colours Thunder Cars and to little surprise defending and 3 time Thunder Car Champion Greg Ogilvie swept both heats. The legends which had a huge turnout on Mondays Test and Tune had many cars missing, but the excitement was high. This is a class to watch out for this summer with 6 time track champion Kevin Foisy, former Late Model drivers Dave Riopelle and Steve Yendall, Former Mini stock champ Matt Mould and the always fast Chad Windsor. Lap one saw two rookies, Ryan Foley(#93) and Hugh Clarke(#53) got together producing some big damage to both cars(see picture). Once racing got back under way Kevin Foisy took his machine to victory lane for the first time of the year. In heat 2 the green flag lap saw Foisy, Windsor, and Riopelle going 3 wide and which resulted in Foisy and Windsor both spinning but both collected it quickly so no yellow flag. Mean while at the front Dave Riopelle ran away capturing his first heat win of the year. 4-4 Funs normally a class with 20+ cars only saw 7 for the night! Quincy Roberts would win both heats in the Gow Property Management 4-4 Funs. Next up were the ACT Late Models with Drummonds Gas now being the presenting Sponsor. A 9 car Field produced some great side by side racing. It’s been a long time sense you could see late models going 2 wide but with the new asphalt it’s now possible. Youngster and the 2009 Inside Track up and coming driver Justin Holtom in his #17 Top Hat Late Model would win the first heat. The second heat would see allot of excitement! On the last lap Matt Moffit in the lead and a fast Spencer Macpherson in second. Going into the turn 3 Macpherson dives to the low side making contact with Moffit. Resulting in Moffit spinning, Steve Munro would take the exit to turn 3 to avoid him and Tim Dorning and Ken Baird would end up spinning trying to avoid Moffit. Spencer ended up getting credit of the win but it wasn’t over there. After the race a closed LM driver meeting was held by the new race director. From what I was told, at the meeting the fault was on Matt Moffit. Features were next and Mini Stock was up first. Doug Mould would end up winning the only Feature of the Night. The Thunder, Legend, 44Fun, and Late Models were all cancelled due to rain. On the bright side all features on June 2nd will now be increased by 50%. All in all it was a great night of racing and I can’t wait until next week.
